Raye won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her album *This Music May Contain Hope* at a ceremony in Newcastle on Thursday.

The British singer-songwriter, born Rachel Keen, received the award for her 73-minute second studio album, which blends big band jazz, power ballads, and funk. The judging panel praised its “scale, structure, ambition and sheer charm,” calling it a work that “displays real imagination and scope in showing what an album can be.” The prize includes a £25,000 award.

Accepting the trophy at the Utilita Arena, Raye said, “I cannot tell you how grateful I am to be holding this. I’m shaking, I’m jet-lagged, I’m tired, I’m grateful!” She reflected on her career struggles, including a public dispute with her former label over album releases, and added, “Albums are so important… to come from a place where it’s all about singles and chasing the next thing, I just feel so grateful to be recognised.”

The album, which topped the UK charts, features the global hit *Where Is My Husband!*, a witty track about romantic frustrations that reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 6 in the US. Raye’s win follows her 2023 success with *My 21st Century Blues*, which earned her six Brit Awards, the most in a single ceremony.

Other nominees included Paul McCartney for *The Boys of Dungeon Lane*, Suede for *Antidepressants*, and Florence + the Machine for *Everybody Scream*. McCartney, in a video message, said he was “chuffed” and “surprised” to be nominated alongside “such a group of really amazing artists.” Florence + the Machine now ties with Radiohead for the most nominations without a win, at five each.
