Hamas confirmed on Friday it had agreed to a deal brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war with Israel, including provisions for the group’s disarmament and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.

The agreement, announced by Trump on his Truth Social platform, outlines a phased disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions in Gaza, with weapons to be inventoried and transferred to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a Palestinian transitional body. The text of the deal states that Israel must fully cease military operations under the Sharm el-Sheikh Protocol, while Hamas and Palestinian factions must also halt all military activity. The International Verification Committee (IVC), established by the Board of Peace, will oversee compliance before Phase 2 of the plan begins.

Hamas officials, including negotiator Ghazi Hamad, stressed that implementation depends on Israel first meeting its commitments, including ending attacks and withdrawing troops to positions held in October 2025. A senior Hamas official told Reuters that the group would only proceed if Israel approves the deal and fulfills prior obligations. Meanwhile, Israel has not yet commented on the agreement, though its far-right factions have urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reject it.

The Board of Peace, an international body created under Trump’s peace plan, includes representatives from Israel, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Belarus. Its legitimacy has been contested, with some European states viewing it as a rival to the United Nations. The deal also references U.N. Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025) as part of the framework.

Trump described the agreement as a “monumental step” toward lasting peace and security, crediting mediator states Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. The plan envisions a transition to Palestinian governance in Gaza, reconstruction efforts, and a political path toward self-determination. However, the exact timeline remains unclear, with negotiations on final details expected to continue over the next two weeks.

Despite the announcement, violence persisted. Rescue workers reported Palestinian injuries in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on Friday, underscoring the fragility of the ceasefire that has been formally in place since October 2025. The deal’s success hinges on mutual compliance, with the IVC tasked with verifying each phase before progression.
